Breaking down all things pop culture

This week on the show, I go solo again while Chloe deals with her immunity that rivals that of Jake Gyllenhaal in Bubble Boy! On the slate for review is a sequel that was considered “never happening” for a long time, an Irish countryside horror that might be the first TRUE scare of 2026, another faith based feature film that I watched to see if they changed their storytelling goals, a couple streaming movies that have been teased for weeks and more!

First up is The Devil Wears Prada 2, the return to the offices of Runway magazine for a reunion between cutesy journalist Andy Sachs and the boss of all bosses, Miranda Priestly. With our big four, Streep, Hathaway, Blunt and Tucci, all returning to their iconic roles for another jaunt with the same creative team leading, does this return after twenty years justify itself? I will tell you now, Tucci is, AGAIN, an MVP!

Next is Hokum, the third film from writer and director Damian McCarthy, who has already creeped us out on Shudder with Caveat and Oddity. Now, for his first big screen release, he puts Adam Scott through the ringer at an old Irish inn that may or may not have a witch trapped in their famed honeymoon suite. Is it true or a bunch of, ahem, HOKUM?

On the physical disc this week, Lionsgate and the Kingdom Story Company really want the word out on their music driven sequel, I Can Only Imagine 2. The big question is, have they adjusted the narrative from giving out a pamphlet on Christian faith to a compelling story and character given drama? I wouldn’t hold my breath on that, sadly!

On Disney+ for a few weeks now, writer and director BenDavid Grabinski flexes his film nerd with a mobster action film that features an unconventional time travel aspect to it. Is Vince Vaughn great in it? Is James Marsden great in it? Is Eiza Gonzalez great in it? Is Vince Vaughn great in it? The answer is yes but there might be upstaging thanks to a hilarious Jimmy Tatro. Also, this film features two phenomenal needle drops and a lengthy debate on Rory Gilmore’s choices in men!

Finally, pivoting over to Prime Video, I get to get some thoughts out about the new ballerina versus russian gangsters action flick, Pretty Deadly. The film features all the bombastic fight style of David Leitch’s 47 North productions but are all the other pieces in place to make this a fully rounded kick ass experience? Besides Uma Thurman having some villainous fun, I’m skeptical about this finished product.

New To My Library this week, I dig into a couple animated complete series, one a reboot of an 80s classic and one for both kids and their stoner parents, a true crime limited series starring an unrecognizable Renee Zellweger and a lo-fi rave culture film from the year 2000 (sing that part) that Sony has upgraded to 4K.

Coming up next week:

Mortal Kombat II
The Sheep Detectives
Billie Eilish: Hit Me Hard & Soft The Tour – Live In 3D
Peter Hujar’s Day
Remarkably Bright Creatures
…and more.

New episodes of What The Hell Should I Watch? drop every Friday at 9 a.m. Pacific.
